In this twenty-first edition of the botanical calendars and diaries, the Aboca Museum offers collectors and nature lovers a number of evocative images from an eighteenth-century naturalistic masterpiece: Plantae Selectae by Christophorus Jacobus Trew.

Christoph Jacob Trew (1695-1769) was a German physician and botanist with a passion for medicinal plants. He was also an imperial councillor and lecturer at the University of Nuremberg.

He coordinated the creation of this valuable collection and also contributed personally with still drawings.

Plantae Selectae is one of the most decorative herbals of its epoch: significant in its large folio size, it depicts plants and flowers, especially exotic ones, cultivated in the sumptuous gardens of London. The complex preparation of the magnificent illustrative plates, printed in decuria, took a remarkable 23 years until their final publication (1750-1773). It is a work of great value and rarity.

The plates are taken from the original work preserved in the Bibliotheca Antiqua of the Aboca Museum.
