Otitis is one of the most frequent diseases in children, especially in the first three years of life, and represents the consequence or complication of an infectious episode of the upper airways, in particular cold and flu type illnesses typical of the colder season.

One of the most typical forms is acute otitis media, a form of otitis that starts suddenly, hurts and is almost always associated with fever and general malaise. Another form of otitis is otitis media with effusion, which is usually not accompanied by acute pain and shows no signs and symptoms of acute infection; medicinal plants are very useful in treating both forms.
