What can - and must - we do to protect ourselves from mankind’s deadliest enemy?

Drawing on the latest medical science, new epidemiological investigations and his many years of experience, Michael T. Osterholm explores the resources and programs we need to develop if we are to keep ourselves safe from the threats posed by infectious disease.

First published in 2017 and since updated with a new preface on Covid-19, Il peggior nemico is a meticulous and well-researched essay that also sheds light on another very important threat to the future of humanity: antibiotic resistance.

Only by understanding the challenges we face, says Osterholm, can we prevent the unthinkable from becoming the inevitable.

"This book, written before Covid-19, makes a powerful case for how to fight future epidemics." The Times
