The surface is decorated with a colourful image taken from the Hortus Eystettensis, an amazing herbal made by Basilius Besler in the 17th century.
Part of Aboca’s project has always been to reveal the history of botany in its rarer and more precious aspects. After a sixteen-year study, the Hortus Eystettensis was published in 1613. It contains illustrations of over a thousand plants, for the first time ordered according to the natural flowering calendar. The specimen from which Aboca has drawn, and whose complete reproduction they have curated, is that found in the Library of the University of Eichstätt.
